Will Rogers — A Short Political Summary

Boise City

Oklahoma

March 2013

These days, the Oklahoma Panhandle, as well as the rest of the state of Oklahoma, is about as Republican as you can get.  If you were to stand around with seven of your best friends during the Presidential election in 2008, and you voted for Mr Obama, rest assured that your seven friends voted for the other guy.  That many Republicans.

On the other hand, Oklahoma’s Favorite Son Will Rogers said, “I belong to no organized party.  I’m a Democrat.”

I ran into a Will Rogers convention, much to my surprise.

Rogers was born on a ranch in the Cherokee Nation that is today Oologah, Oklahoma, and became famous as a cowboy, star of radio programs, Broadway plays and movies, and for writing more than 4000 syndicated articles.  He was funny as all get-out.  To wit…

.  Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.

.  A fool and his money are soon elected.

.  I don’t make jokes.  I just watch the government and report the facts.

.  Diplomacy is the art of saying, “nice doggie” until you can find a rock.

.  When the Okies left Oklahoma and moved to California, they raised the average intelligence level in both states.
