Freemont
Ohio
March 2012
After our summit hike of Campbell Hill in Bellefontaine, Ohio, we are heading east toward home on the interstate highway. After a little detour to visit the giant praying mantis on the OSU campus, and a drive-by of Mooberry Street in Columbus, we continue past the Rushing Wind Biker Church.
Clearly not all the zany is reserved for Bellfontaine with its high point, short street and oldest concrete street. Clearly not all the zany is reserved for all these other places in Ohio, with its spherical house, ridiculously oversized Longaberger Basket and its twenty-foot tall golf ball on a tee.
Near Freemont, we drive under the bridge carrying Fangboner Road from one side of the highway to the other. Fangboner. What the heck is a Fangboner? Someone’s name? Poor schmuck.
Of course, I look it up. Apparently, a fangboner is a vampire’s erection. Did you know that? Fangboner is also someone’s name, but no one you’ve ever heard of.
Actually, John Fangboner was a big deal agri-businessman and community leader, after having fought in the Civil War. Whether John Fangboner actually ever had a fangboner is unknown
