Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania
always and forever
Most folks never hear this word until they come to Pittsburgh. Jagoff.
Yeah, jagoff.
The word jagoff is an ancient word that probably originated with the Shawnee, the native tribe that once resided in western Pennsylvania.
No it isn’t. That’s totally ridiculous.
Jagoff is truly a Pittsburgh word, through and through. We use jagoff freely. Jagoff is a colloquialism, a quirky regionalism, a matter of fact assessment.
What is a jagoff, as if you can’t figure it out from the sound. A jagoff is a poopy head, a fucktard, one who jags around.
Is being called a jagoff a bad thing? Often no, but sometimes yes, which is to say, call a real jagoff a jagoff, and you might come to fisticuffs. But call your best friend a jagoff and your best friend will smile and call you a jagoff in return. And then you’ll go for an I C Light.
We have license plate frames and bumper stickers in Pittsburgh…
IF YOUR NOT A STEELERS FAN
THEN YOUR A JAGOFF
…and yeah, it’s spelled that way.
Jagoff is one of the greatest words in the English language. If you don’t agree, then… well, you know what.
