Make voyages. Attempt them. There’s nothing else.
— Tennessee Williams
The American playwright Tennessee Williams once told me the quote above. No, he didn’t.
My brother Laurence once told me, “Kenn, you should get off your
duff and travel more.” Yes, he did.
I only want to make him happy.
When interviewed by Neil Strauss, Lionel Richie said, “…when I got there, I discovered what was at the top. You know what was there?… Nothing. Not one thing.” But then he added, “What was at the top was all the experiences that you had to get there.”
I don’t agree that there is nothing at the top. But I do believe in all that happens to get you there. A lot is going on up there, from mini-keg-toting frat boys on Mount Mansfield in Vermont to swarming gnats on Humphreys Peak in Arizona to the reluctant gods and goddesses on the summit of Hawaii. These are the High Points.
I didn’t begin to collect high points with a cause in mind, other than to have a good time with my girlfriend. Each and every trip with Lisa has been a great date. Once we started Highpointing, we couldn’t stop. This is good. We didn’t want to stop.
